Synthetic Turf Materials

When it comes to synthetic turf, quality and installation are the two most important items to consider. Synthetic grass has been around for years and has often been described as cheap, lime green, fake looking plastic. Well, the days of cheap “AstroTurf” are long gone. Today’s synthetic turf is manufactured using 3 different materials:

Popular Artificial Turf Materials

Nylon

The strongest, stiffest, and most durable of the three materials. These blades are notorious for holding their shape in high traffic areas. Great in all weather and therefore a fantastic choice for any outdoor installation. We also use this material for short pile golf greens, on rooftop decks, and indoor facilities.

Polypropylene

The original material used in synthetic grass. It dates back to the 1970’s and is still frequently used today. Polypropylene turf is extremely light and pliable and is often the first choice for indoor artificial turf installations. For sand filled putting greens this is the material of choice offering a softer smooth roll to create real course like conditions.

Polyethylene

Its popularity has grown exponentially with homeowners looking for a realistic option to replace their natural grass lawn. Polyethylene is vibrantly green, soft, but very durable. It is the newest product used for synthetic lawns and can offer the most realistic-looking grass. It is resistant to water absorption and is the preferred choice for pet owners concerned about odor. Because its soft and more durable, it only needs the occasional brushing to return the fibers to its original condition.

Base and Infill Material

Class Two Road Base

We only use the Cal Trans Spec native rock with no recycled materials. It is generally used as a compacted base for golf greens, lawn turf, roads, parking lots, interlocking pavers, sidewalks, asphalt, compacted rock surfaces, and as a sub-base under retaining walls.

Quarter Minus/DG

It’s expensive, but worth it! This premium quality decomposed granite is the best ground cover choice for turf installations, golf green installation, walkways or driveways, this aggregate packs tightly and resists shifting once in place.

20/40 Round Silica

Infill is extremely important and can make or break the installation. Our company trucks in a special round silica from out of state specifically designed to increase drainage and performance. Many of our competitors use cheap angular sand found at your local material yard.

Ceramic Coated Anti-Microbial

Additionally, we use a specialized artificial turf infill different from any others on the market today. It is a multi-colored sand that matches the thatch and hides in the grass, putting surface and fringe areas. It’s a non-rubber, long-lasting option that provides a more authentic and realistic appearance.
